EXCLUSIVE: Lawrence “LAW” Watford’s Divine Write Pictures has optioned film, TV and digital rights to the book The Seminarian: Martin Luther King Jr. Comes of Age by Patrick Parr.

Watford is planning to adapt the book for television via his Tyler Street Films partnership with Jack Manning III and Tiffany Elle Burgess; all are graduates of Hampton University, a historically black college in Virginia.

Oprah Winfrey’s new adaption of The Color Purple Musical recently made news with the addition of stars like Taraji P. Henson, H.E.R and King Richard’s Aunjanue Ellis joining Fantasia Barrino.

According to Blackfilmandtv.com, the highly anticipated production is also being praised for its willingness to highlight the next generation of Black Hollywood. The production recently added three new faces — Terrence J. Smith, Tiffany Elle Burgess, and Aba Arthur to the production.
